A veces los hechos quedan grabados a fuego en el corazón, y así me ocurrió durante la celebración del Jubileo del Deporte. El jubileo es una peregrinación a Roma que se celebra cada 25 años. Este Año Santo fue anunciado por el papa Francisco y continuado por el papa León XIV.
Entre los días 13 y 15 de junio, el jubileo se dedicó al deporte, y la Ciudad Eterna estaba llena de atletas, deportistas, entrenadores y coordinadores deportivos de colegios o instituciones que peregrinaron hasta la capital italiana. La ciudad respiraba alegría, buen tiempo y, sobre todo, compañerismo y fair play, como en todo evento deportivo digno de reconocimiento, donde la participación española destacó por la buena organización llevada a cabo por la Conferencia Episcopal Española, a través de la recientemente creada Comisión de Pastoral del Deporte, en la que Escuelas Católicas también participa.
El jubileo tuvo numerosos momentos, cada uno más conmovedor que el anterior. Destacaron un congreso formativo, una recepción con el papa, la peregrinación por Roma de miles de asistentes desde la Piazza del Popolo hasta la Puerta Santa de la Basílica de San Pedro en el Vaticano, la proyección al aire libre en el Trastevere de la película Carros de fuego y, como colofón final, una vibrante misa en la Basílica de San Pedro en conmemoración del deporte y de la Santísima Trinidad.

Durante el Jubileo del Deporte, el papa León XIV recordó a San Juan Pablo II, quien decía que el deporte es “alegría de vivir, juego, fiesta, y como tal debe valorarse mediante la recuperación de su gratuidad, de su capacidad para estrechar lazos de amistad, para favorecer el diálogo y la apertura de unos hacia otros”. Además, destacó cuestiones que compartimos quienes vemos el deporte como una herramienta pedagógica: el deporte también enseña a ganar y a perder, mostrando la fragilidad y los límites de las personas.
El deporte en los centros escolares está inspirado en principios como el compañerismo, el juego limpio, las prácticas de vida saludables, la inclusión, la socialización y el rechazo a la violencia. La pedagogía en el deporte escolar va mucho más allá de enseñar técnicas o ganar competencias: es una herramienta poderosa para formar personas íntegras. A través del juego y el trabajo en equipo, el alumnado que como deportistas representa a su colegio, aprende valores fundamentales como la solidaridad, la perseverancia y la disciplina. En cada entrenamiento se cultiva la empatía, se fortalece la autoestima y se enseña a convivir con la derrota y el triunfo. El deporte escolar, guiado con sensibilidad pedagógica, se convierte en un espacio donde el aprendizaje emocional y social florece tanto como el físico, sembrando en cada alumno las semillas de un desarrollo humano más completo.
